A BUDGET OF BROKEN PROMISES

Budget 2014

Tonight’s Budget is based on a lie confected to justify a range of broken promises.

There is no Budget emergency and therefore, no Budget emergency action is required.

Prior to every election Treasury updates the Budget position so that all political parties know exactly what the state of the Country’s finances are.  With this knowledge, Tony Abbott said on the eve of the election - there will be “no cuts to education, no cuts to health, no changes to pensions”.

All those promises have been broken.

As a result, the cost of living including fuel prices for local residents will rise.

It will be worse for aged pensioners and low income families who will have the purchasing power of their payments reduced.

Hit also will be all members of our community who will now face increased medical costs.

This is a bad budget full of wrong priorities like the overly-generous paid parental leave scheme.

I’ve no doubt it will be overwhelmingly rejected by Hunter residents.
