ANOTHER WEEK PASSES BUT STILL NO AGRICULTURE WHITE PAPER

Another week has passed but still no Agriculture White Paper.

Barnaby Joyce has kept everyone guessing about the release date of the White Paper, from it being “imminent” in March to:

“We could easily have had a white paper out last year but it will be worth the wait to make it substantial,”  in April to:

“We could announce it tomorrow, we could have announced it last week.” announced on 17 May on Sky News.

Yet at Senate Estimates this week, in response to a question on the progress of the White Paper, the acting Secretary of the Department of Agriculture said:

“It is not yet finalised” and that “it is still going through the processes”.

There appears to me to be inconsistences between what the Minister and his Department is saying.

Barnaby might enjoy playing politics with his mystery paper, but farmers and the agriculture sector in general are getting tired of waiting.
