Another week has passed but still no Agriculture White Paper.
Prior to the election Tony Abbott promised that his government would deliver the White Paper within 12 months of office.
Last month, having advised us in March the release of the White Paper was “ imminent”, Barnaby Joyce told us that the delay was because the Paper would have “meat on the bone” .
Yesterday I understand that the White Paper was going before the Expenditure Review Committee (ERC). In the absence of any announcement from Barnaby I have to assume the “razor gang” is cutting any substance in the Paper.
I appreciate the formulation of sound agriculture policy is a serious business and it should not be the stuff of glib statements or promises by the Abbott Government.
Farmers and agribusiness alike need to be able to trust Barnaby Joyce to deliver policy direction and certainty to the sector.
