AUSTRALIA DAY 2015

Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon is looking forward to welcoming new Australian Citizens at Maitland Park this Australia Day.

“Becoming an Australian Citizen is a great honour in itself, but becoming a Citizen on Australia Day is a truly special occasion.

This day celebrates what we have accomplished together as a nation and commits us to making Australia an even better place in the future,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

New Australian citizens are able to fully participate in our democratic process and enjoy the benefits of living in the Australian community.

“I encourage new citizens to involve themselves in their local community; have their say on important issues affecting our nation by enrolling to vote,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“Australia Day is a great day to reflect on what it means to be an Australian and the wonderful opportunities we have living in this wonderful country.”

“Australia Day means many different things to different people.

”This in itself is a reflection of the freedom we enjoy as a democratic country and the widespread and rich diversity of our citizens and communities.”

“Australia Day is a time to rejoice in the success of the multicultural society we have built together, and to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding contribution these communities have made to our nation.”
