After more than a year of pain and uncertainty for the agriculture sector, it appears the result of the Turnbull Government's forced review of the backpacker tax is finally near.
Once again, we have a weak Prime Minister being bullied by his backbench – creating uncertainty for farmers and industry.
The workforce needs of our farmers must be given priority over this Government's grab for cash.
Media has been reporting a 19 per cent tax rate compromise. But the decision on the final rate must not be arbitrary. Rather, it has to be about Australia's international competitiveness.
The agriculture sector cannot afford another stuff up.
This Government created the problem and it needs to fix it.
