Jason Clare, Shadow Minister for Communications visited our electorate last week to discuss the ongoing issues too many people face with poor mobile coverage and broadband access.
Jason Clare pointed out that under Labor's plan many more people would have the NBN now and confirmed Labor’s commitment to the rollout of the NBN. Meanwhile we are working hard to ensure electorates such as Hunter are not left behind.
I have run many campaigns in Hunter highlighting the difficulties faced by my constituency and have had some recent successes with more ADSL2 ports being released in Abermain, Greta and Branxton. However there is still a long way to go.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ros Lindsay and the organisers of the wonderful tribute to Reg Lindsay a local legend of Country Music.
Ros and her team have worked tirelessly to raise funds for the life sized statue of Reg Lindsay now on display at East Cessnock Bowling Club.
The events surrounding the unveiling of Reg’s statue attracted more than 1500 people to the area. What a great asset.

The 2015 Community Heritage Grants program is now open. The National Library of Australia administers this program, which offers grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations to assist in preserving nationally significant heritage collections.
Not-for-profit organisations such as historical societies, regional museums, public libraries and Indigenous and migrant community groups, are encouraged to apply.
A wide range of activities may qualify for grants, including:
• Significant assessment of collections
• Preservation needs assessments of collections
• Purchase of archival quality storage ,materials
• Preservation training projects
• Conservation activities, including cleaning, treatment or rebinding
• Purchase and installation of environmental control and monitoring equipment
• Copying of material once originals have been preserved
• Cataloguing or collection management software
