COUNTRY MEMBERS SELL OUT THEIR ELECTORATES

Liberal, National and LNP Members representing rural and regional electorates sold out their constituents today by voting for Tony Abbott’s higher education bill.

If it passes the Senate, the changes will exacerbate the divide between city and country students and universities.

The elite sandstone universities of our capital cities will thrive on their capacity to charge high student fees. Meanwhile our regional universities struggle to recover from government funding cuts, without the capacity to charge high fees from their communities.

This will impact on the capacity of our regional unis to undertake research, work so critical to rural and regional Australia.

A year ago tomorrow, the Prime Minister promised “no cuts to education”.

Yet another broken promise and another failure on the part of Liberal, National and LNP members to stand up for their communities.
