Decentralisation stunts continue

The Turnbull Government is refusing to support the Member for Indi’s motion for a Joint Select Committee Inquiry into decentralisation, a motion Labor supports.

Fearful of losing the vote on the establishment of a Joint Committee, the Government plans to appoint its own House of Representatives Select Committee so that they can totally control the process, protect Barnaby Joyce’s pork barrelling from scrutiny, and maximise their spin.

Barnaby Joyce tried but failed to hijack the Senate Inquiry into the relocation of the APVMA by making it a more general inquiry into decentralisation.   Now he’s refusing to allow Senators any participation.

Labor will participate in the House Select Committee inquiry and do all we can to make it a serious investigation of both the opportunities and challenges.
