Dr Paul Grimes is a professional, experienced and skilled public servant who has today had his tenure as Secretary of the Department of Agriculture terminated by the Prime Minister.
Dr Grimes lost his job because he told the truth about Hansardgate.
Tony Abbott should be sacking his incompetent Minister Barnaby Joyce, not the respected Dr Grimes.
The manner in which Barnaby Joyce drew officials into his Hansard changes controversy and subsequent cover-up is a disgrace.
In acting to sack Dr Grimes, the Prime Minister is covering for Barnaby Joyce.
My questions to the Prime Minister are:
• On what basis did the Prime Minister call for a report for the termination of Dr Grimes under the Public Service Act;
• On what basis did the Prime Minister recommend to the Governor-General the distinguished career of Dr Grimes be terminated; and
• What contact did the Prime Minister have with Minister Joyce in pursuing this termination; and
• What contact did the Prime Minister have with Dr Grimes in terminating his appointment.
These are serious issues which require serious answers.
The saga has dragged on long enough and has now cost a distinguished public servant his job.
