At the Agriculture Senate Estimates hearing this morning, Labor Senators learned of the existence of a previously undisclosed letter from former Department of Agriculture Secretary Dr Paul Grimes to Minister Barnaby Joyce.
Committee Chair Senator Bill Heffernan appeared to be aware of the letter by describing it as one which was “later withdrawn”.
This letter must be released to the Committee members immediately.
Securing information and documents relating to Minister Barnaby Joyce’s Hansard changes and the circumstances of Dr Grimes’ dismissal has been like pulling teeth.
It is clear that Minister Abetz’s insistence that Dr Grimes take questions on notice during the Special Supplementary Estimates hearing on 5 March 2015 was designed to ensure that the questions were never answered.
