FALSE HOPE FOR FARMERS

It’s now nine days since Barnaby Joyce told The Australian that farmers in our worst drought regions can expect government assistance.

Farmers were told that money would be injected through Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants to local government in order to bring forward infrastructure projects.  These are the same grants the Abbott Government dramatically cut in last year’s Budget.

It was an admission that the Abbott Government’s drought response has been a failure.

Yet having raised hope amongst desperate drought affected communities, Barnaby Joyce has fallen silent.

Farming families in our worst drought affected regions are living day-by-day. Nine days is an eternity to them.

Having raised hopes, Barnaby Joyce must now act.
