FITZGERALD BRIDGE KICKS OFF

The new Fitzgerald Bridge over the Hunter River at Aberdeen has commenced construction.

The new Fitzgerald Bridge over the Hunter River at Aberdeen has commenced construction.

Federal Member for the Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon was on site today to view the early construction works.

“This is an important project for productivity in New South Wales, as it will enable more efficient and direct freight movements through the State.

“Built in 1893, the existing southbound structure is well past it's used by date and not up to 21st Century standards.

“Our Nation Building Program is investing $11.6 billion in this state’s land transport infrastructure – on projects like this that will increase the safety and productivity of our transport networks.

The new Fitzgerald Bridge is an important improvement  to the New England Highway.  It has been designed to withstand a one in 100 year flood, and is expected to last 100 years in usel

The Federal Government has committed $28 million to the project.new Fitgerald bridge
