FITZGIBBON VISITS DROUGHT AFFECTED FARMERS

Shadow Minister for Agriculture Joel Fitzgibbon inspected drought affected properties in Central Queensland today.

Mr Fitzgibbon met and spoke with producers on properties in the Lockington area south-west of Emerald.

"These are some of the nation's worst hit properties and here the drought remains very real."

"Many in our urban communities think the drought emergency has passed, but today I heard how much families on the land here continue to struggle."

"Many thought that when the Prime Minister embarked on his February drought tour and announced an assistance package our farmers had been saved".

"But more than three months on the centrepiece of the package - the concessional loans scheme - has not reached one Australian farmer."

Mr Fitzgibbon thanked the National Farmers Federation and AgForce Queensland for organising and facilitating the visit.
