Girl Guides' gift

The Toronto Girl Guides were all smiles when Federal Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon visited their weekly meet up to congratulate the group on a receiving a $4,250 grant to assist their volunteers.

Girl Guides is a worldwide movement that aims to empower girls and young women between 5 and 17 years to grow into confident, resilient and responsible community members.

All this would not be possible without the dedication and commitment from the volunteers who run the local organisation.

The contribution was used to assist with travel costs incurred by volunteers who run programs and experiences for their members and their families.

“It’s excellent to see this investment in Girl Guides has gone toward practically supporting the amazing work the volunteers do to allow their young members to try new things, learn new skills, and make friends,” Federal Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon said.

41 volunteer organisations in the Hunter electorate have shared in $145,395 under the latest Volunteer Grants program.

Volunteer Grants aim to support the efforts of Australia’s volunteers. The grants provide small amounts of money that organisations and community groups can use to help their volunteers. The grants aim to support the volunteers who help disadvantaged Australian communities and encourage inclusion of vulnerable people in community life.
