The Turnbull Government must commit to making its secret sugar industry code of conduct public before it goes to Executive Council and is enacted law.
The Government’s reckless approach to economic policy has reached new and dizzy heights. The sugar code will be the first mandatory code which makes arbitration compulsory.
There has been no stakeholder consultation and no regulatory impact statement.
A code of conduct made into law without notice and consultation and containing mandatory arbitration provisions will send shock waves through every sector in the Australian economy.
The Turnbull Government is putting its own political interests ahead of the national interest.
If it believes its code of conduct is of merit then it should have no reason not to release it.
