GOVERNMENT SCORES ANOTHER “F” FOR FAIL ON DROUGHT ASSISTANCE

Drought-affected farming families will take little hope or joy from Barnaby Joyce’s response to my drought assistance question in Parliament today.

More than three months on from his announcement, not one cent of drought concessional loans money has gone to farmers.

Minister Joyce should have used his answer to explain why the delay has been so great and why hopes were raised that assistance was imminent.

Instead he waffled on about past schemes and wild dogs – an important issue but hardly relevant to the question.

The Prime Minister’s February drought tour was a convenient political circuit-breaker for him, but not a circuit-breaker for devastated farmers.
