HANSARDGATE

The Prime Minister must ensure the letter from sacked Departmental Secretary Dr Paul Grimes to Barnaby Joyce is released to me before the House adjourns this week.

Since late 2014 when Barnaby Joyce’s Hansard record was significantly altered, the Government has been desperately trying to prevent the release of the letter.  It has fought the FOI system all the way.

The cover-up is always worse than the crime and if Barnaby Joyce deliberately misled the House by claiming he knew nothing of the Hansard changes, he could be in contempt of the Parliament.

Now the Information Commissioner has ruled the letter must be released, the Government must do so before the House rises so that any possible contempt issues can be dealt with prior to the election.

If the Government does not release the letter before the House adjourns, the Australian people will be left to draw only one conclusion:  that Barnaby Joyce and the Prime Minister have something very significant to hide.
