Labor values the important role that home visits play in our health care system, particularly after hours.
Home visits improve access to primary care outside 9-to-5, and can help to prevent inconvenient and expensive hospital visits.
The Government’s Medicare Review Taskforce is reviewing after hours home visits, and concerns have been raised about the quality and cost of some home visit services.
Labor will scrutinise the Review’s findings when they are available. We call on the Government to release the Review’s report publicly as soon as possible.
Labor will not support another senseless attack on Medicare by Malcolm Turnbull. Prime Minister Turnbull has extended the freeze on Medicare rebates to six years, cut $650 million from vital scans and blood tests, and doubled down on the Government’s plan to slash the Medicare Safety Nets.
The Medicare Review must not become another excuse for Mr Turnbull to cut Medicare. Any savings that are recommended by doctors and agreed by the Government must be reinvested in Medicare – as Labor promised to do before the last election.
