JOEL FITZGIBBON VISITS WESTERN AUSTRALIA

I have just completed a three-day visit to Western Australia.

On Saturday I attended the Chapman Valley Show and visited Geraldton Universities Centre.

Yesterday I addressed the Labor Party’s State Executive meeting in Geraldton.

During the visit I have been consulting with growers, the WA Farmers’ Federation and the PGA in readiness for the looming debate over wheat deregulation.

There is very deep concern in Western Australia about the Government’s regulatory intentions in the wheat sector.

During my visit the failure of the Abbott Government to provide drought assistance and the adverse impact of the Government’s budget on regional communities have been key topics of conversation.

It’s been great to join Alannah MacTiernan, State Leader Mark McGowan, Darren West, Ken Travers and the rest of the State Parliamentary team in rural and regional WA.

This was my third visit to WA this year and I’ve appreciated the willingness of people to discuss important local issues with me.

I look forward to continuing that positive dialogue.
