JOYCE MUST GIVE GUARANTEES ON FARM FINANCE

Farming communities are increasingly concerned about the uncertainty Barnaby Joyce has created through his changes to Labor’s Farm Finance Package.

Mr Joyce’s changes – which increase funding to drought-affected states, yet rip out money from other states – is playing favourites and will negatively affect struggling families across the country.

The Farm Finance Package is not just about drought. The $420 million program was put in place by the former Labor Government to assist farming families struggling to meet debt commitments. Farmers face problems for a variety of reasons, including drought and market conditions.

If some states need more assistance, the Government should increase overall funding, not rob it from other states, and other struggling families.

Prior to the election the Coalition promised farmers more, not less. Australian farmers can’t afford Barnaby Joyce’s cuts.
