JOYCE SITS ON HIS HANDS WHILE INDONESIAN TRADE STALLS

Exports of live cattle to Indonesia have ground to a halt for many exporters and questions have emerged about Barnaby Joyce’s inaction.

Industry participants are reporting that new Indonesian Government requirements on breeder cattle numbers are not commercially viable and may drive prices up for Indonesian consumers. They need Government to speak up to help to get this message through.

But six weeks since these problems first emerged, Barnaby Joyce is yet to lift a finger to help.

A number of Australian live cattle export ships remain anchored outside northern ports and industry needs the Australian Government to open a dialogue with their Indonesian counterparts.

This is not the first hit on our live exporters on Barnaby Joyce’s watch.

The Agriculture Minister is always quick off the mark when he spots political opportunity but when industry really needs him, he is missing in action.
