Labor’s Country Caucus has formally convened.
Formed in the last Parliament, the group devotes itself to the promotion of good policy outcomes for rural, regional and remote communities.
While the work never stopped, we’re officially up and running again, fighting for and protecting the interests of all those who live outside our capital cities.
I’m pleased Richmond MP Justine Elliot is continuing as Chair and I’m delighted Queensland Senator Anthony Chisolm has taken on the role of Secretary of the group. He is a great addition to the team.
I thank Lisa Chesters for her great work as Secretary. She will remain an important part of the team as Shadow Assistant Minister for Rural & Regional Australia.
I’m also delighted to announce former Agriculture Minister and Treasurer John Kerin has agreed to remain the group’s Patron. John is a great source of advice and guidance.
We look forward to continuing to develop good policy ideas and defending the bush against the Turnbull/Joyce Government’s attacks on rural and regional Australia
