The first of Labor’s two NBN satellites will launch into orbit on 1 October 2015.
This is great news for Australians living in rural and remote Australia.
The former Labor Government commissioned these satellites in 2012, with launch scheduled for 2015.
At the time, the Liberal Party and the National Party opposed these satellites. They called them a Rolls-Royce solution and a waste of money.
Shadow Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said:
“There is enough capacity on private satellites already in orbit or scheduled for launch for the NBN to deliver broadband to the 200,000 or so premises in remote Australia without building its own.”

In a backflip worthy of Nadia Comăneci, Malcolm Turnbull today called these satellites a “game changer.”
Three years ago, he said they weren’t necessary, now he’s trying to claim credit for them.
In opposition, Tony Abbott sent Malcolm Turnbull to “demolish” the NBN, including these satellites.
Fortunately for the thousands of Australians that will benefit, Labor signed the contracts for delivery of these satellites before the Liberal National Government was sworn in.
Labor understands that broadband is an essential utility, like electricity or water. This is why Labor commissioned these satellites to give people in the bush the benefits of broadband.
Labor’s new satellites will transform health and education delivery for the bush and improve the way small businesses do business.
