LOCAL BUSINESSES BUILD LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND LEAD THE WORLD

Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Kelvin Thomson and Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, today announced that twelve businesses were reimbursed a combined total of $409,113 under the Australian Government’s Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) Scheme in 2011-12.

“I congratulate local EMDG recipients for operating and employing locally, and at the same time, reaching out to foreign markets”, Mr Thomson said.

Mr Fitzgibbon said: “We have a close-knit community, and successful companies that provide jobs and stability are important to our strength and viability of our community.  I congratulate these companies for their efforts to secure our future by tapping into overseas markets.”

“These great Australian businesses are to be congratulated for every job and every dollar contributed to their local community from export sales,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“Australia’s exporters are the frontline troops in the global battle of economic competitiveness.  Fortunately, Australia leads the world in many fields, a fact Australian exporters demonstrate every day with their outstanding products, technologies and services.  As we compete in the Asian Century, now more than ever, Australia’s economy relies on our ingenuity and drive, and exports are an important component of our future prosperity” Mr Thomson said.
