Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, today announced that two local organisations have secured funding under the ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program.
Weston RSL Sub-branch will receive $1,310 which will allow them to install a brass plaque in Peace Park Weston, to commemorate the Wallaby Recruiting March and Coalfields Heritage Group will receive $1,500 to support their research project on the First World War.
“I congratulate both organisations for their hard work in ensuring that the contribution of Australian Defence Force members is recognised and remembered,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
The Centenary of ANZAC in 2015 will be one of the most significant national periods of commemoration in our nation’s history. Up to $125,000 in each electorate was available to support Centenary of Anzac projects in the Hunter electorate.
The Local Hunter Electorate Committee recently finalised and reviewed all the Hunter electorate applications and forwarded their recommendations to the Department of Veterans Affairs for consideration.
Further funding announcements will be made in coming weeks.
