OVER 24,000 AGE PENSIONERS IN HUNTER TO SUFFER FROM TONY ABBOTT’S BROKEN PROMISE

Over 24,000 age pensioners in Hunter are to be hit by Tony Abbott’s broken promise on the age pension.

Tony Abbott said time and time again before the election that he wouldn’t change the pension – and now we know that is exactly what he is planning to do.

"Tony Abbott wants to pay high income women $75,000 to have a baby, but wants to cut the payments of over 24,000 age pensioners in Hunter.

"Why are the priorities of this Prime Minister so twisted?" Joel Fitzgibbon said.

"At the last election, Tony Abbott promised our pensioners he would not cut their pensions – he is betraying the trust of pensioners who took him at his word,"

Before the election, Tony Abbott made a solemn promise to Australian pensioners:
ABBOTT: No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.

ABBOTT: I can assure your listeners that there will be no cuts to health, no cuts to education, no cuts to pensions, no change to the GST

ABBOTT: There are no cuts to health. No cuts to education. Pensions don’t change. The GST doesn’t change.

Joel Fitzgibbon said that he would fight against Tony Abbott’s cuts to the age pension.

"Labor does not support the Prime Ministers cuts to the Age Pension and we will oppose these cuts every step of the way."
