Today the Morrison Government announced that more Local Government Areas will be added to the list of those eligible for funding under its Drought Communities Program.
The Program is designed to help build local community infrastructure and other drought relief projects for communities impacted by drought.
When the Program was announced in August, Muswellbrook Council was included on the list but Singleton missed out. Drought policy based on lines drawn on a map is always failed policy.
When Singleton initially missed out I did not publicly criticise the Government. I’d prefer not to politicise drought. Rather, I quietly lobbied the Minister for reconsideration.
But it’s now time to speak out and speak loudly. The Singleton LGA is in drought and Singleton district farmers are suffering.
They are suffering no less than farmers in the Muswellbrook LGA.
Singleton has been dudded. It’s a shocking slap in the face and I’m angry.
