STANFORD MERTHYR ROUNDABOUT NEARING COMPLETION

Work to complete the Stanford Merthyr roundabout is progressing well and on track for completion next month.

Work to complete the Stanford Merthyr roundabout is progressing well and on track for completion next month.

Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, said the roundabout is scheduled to open in June, and will provide better access for motorists and residents travelling onto John Renshaw Drive.

“Building the roundabout at the intersection of Maitland Street and Mulbring/Tarro Street at Stanford Merthyr has been challenging, with the discovery and filling of shallow mine voids to stabilise the road, as well as wet weather earlier this year.

“Residents and motorists have been accommodating during the work and we want to take this opportunity to thank them for their patience,” said Mr Fitzgibbon.

NSW Duty MLC for Cessnock, Trevor Khan, said motorists may experience short delays and changed traffic conditions while finishing work continues on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and in the evening of Thursday 9 May from 6pm to 7am.

“During works, traffic changes will be in place, including continued T-intersection arrangements, a right turn ban from Mulbring/Tarro Street into Maitland Street and a 40 kilometre per hour speed limit.

“On Friday 10 May, traffic on Mulbring/Tarro Street will be moved onto the original alignment of Mulbring/Tarro Street to allow for continued building on the roundabout.

“Traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place where needed to ensure the safety of workers, motorists and other road users,” said Mr Fitzgibbon.

The $1.7 billion Hunter Expressway project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government providing $1.5 billion and the NSW Government contributing up to $200 million.
