TRUSS RE-ANNOUNCEMENT TOUR HITS SCONE

The Hon. Anthony Albanese

Media Release

Warren Truss’ re-announcement tour of Labor government-funded road projects has taken him to Scone, where he has pretended the Labor-government funded New England Highway bypass is a Coalition project.

In fact, as recently as last year, this project was on the Coalition chopping block as the government prepared to cut funding across regional Australia.

Mr Truss has finally woken up to the fact that Hunter residents will not tolerate Coalition cuts to important community infrastructure projects that will boost productivity and liveability in their region.

Labor welcomes Mr Truss’s conversion and his intention to deliver this bypass.

When Labor took office Australia was 20th on a list of 25 OECD nations in terms of infrastructure spending as a proportion of GDP.

It now tops the list.

Instead of re-announcing Labor projects Mr Truss should get on with the job of delivering the next wave of infrastructure Australia needs to boost national economic productivity.=
