Nine months on from the Prime Minister's drought tour but just one week out from the Victorian State election the Abbott Government is finally acknowledging the plight of drought affected Victorian farmers.
Yet Barnaby Joyce’s announcement today amounts to no more than a lick and a promise.
There is clearly no formal arrangement with the Victorian Government which is in caretaker mode.
In any case, Victorian farmers will face the same impossible hurdles farmers have faced in other States under the Abbott Government’s failed drought package.
Farmers in Victoria will be disappointed that on the eve of the Victorian election they are being used as no more than pawns in the Coalition’s political game.
It is past time the Abbott Government moved to fix its failed drought package.
