ACTING PRIME MINISTER TAKING EXTRAORDINARY STEPS TO SUPPRESS THE RELEASE OF THE HANSARDGATE LETTER

Today we learnt that the Acting Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce will take extraordinary steps to suppress the release of the Hansardgate letter from sacked Departmental Secretary Dr Paul Grimes, by appealing the Information Commissioner’s decision that the letter should be released under FOI law.

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources sent a letter of appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal yesterday –  the last day possible to appeal the Information Commissioner’s decision.

The Acting Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has desperately tried to keep the letter from being made public, from asking for it to be deleted from his own departmental email system to continued frustration through the FOI system and Estimates hearings.

How much more will this folly cost the Australian taxpayer?

And what are Barnaby Joyce and the Turnbull Government so desperate to hide?
