GLENDALE INTERCHANGE WORKS PROGRESS

Today we inspected the Labor Government funded works at Glendale Interchange, a strategically important infrastructure project for the Hunter Region which is supporting jobs and economic development.

The tour was conducted by Lake Macquarie Mayor Jodie Harrison MP along with representatives from Council and building works contractor Daracon.

The former Labor Government delivered $13.7 million to support construction of Stage 1 of the Glendale Interchange through the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF). This funding has supported the extension of Stockland Drive  to provide additional access and relieve congestion in and around the Glendale shopping precinct. When complete, the Glendale Interchange will be an integrated transport facility linking rail and road transport options and drive growth in the Cardiff Industrial area.

Funding is currently being sought to complete the first stage of the project, which includes construction of the Pennant Street Bridge.

But upon being elected the Coalition Government cancelled Round 5 of the RDAF and cut $1.2 million of funding for the Glendale Interchange. The Coalition Government has also twice rejected applications from Lake Macquarie City Council under its own Stronger Regions Fund for further funding for this important project.

The Hunter region needs strong local advocates like Joel Fitzgibbon, Pat Conroy and Meryl Swanson who will continue to fight for the infrastructure funding that local people need.

An elected Labor Government will work with local and state government to identify funding options for Stage 2 of Section 1, as well as future sections.
