ANAO AUDIT HIGHLIGHTS DROUGHT LOAN FAILINGS

An Australian National Audit Office report has exposed the political nature of the Abbott/Turnbull Government's main drought response.

These concessional loans were always about political cover rather than the needs of drought affected farming families.

The Government has consistently claimed it is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on drought assistance by talking about the total value of loans rather than the cost of providing them.  Worse, they are including loans they know will never be taken up because farmers find it too hard to qualify.

The ANAO has belled the cat; finding no modelling had been done to estimate demand and therefore, the amount of money needed.

The Government's drought policy has been a cruel hoax on farming families.
