The Opposition calls upon the Abbott Government to provide more transparency and detail around the announcement of an “extra” $1.3 million in drought funding today.
It is unclear whether it is new money or simply a re-shuffling of existing funds.
Further, farm groups are asking why the lion’s share of the funding announced today is going to NSW while parts of Central Queensland such as Barcaldine, Longreach, Blackall, Muttaburra, Jundah and Isisford still remain in severe drought.
Labor is seeking re-assurance that drought funding is not being used as a NSW election campaign tool.
We also call upon the Government to guarantee that drought support services will be funded beyond June 30, 2015.
