PRIME MINISTER MUST CLEAR THE AIR ON HANSARDGATE

Tony Abbott appears to have become embroiled Barnaby Joyce's Hansardgate.

According to The Guardian, the Prime Minister's Department has confirmed it made calls to Agriculture Department Secretary Dr Grimes after he wrote to Senator Heffernan seeking a special additional Senate Estimates hearing to provide further evidence concerning the alterations to the House of Representatives Hansard.

The Prime Minister must now explain why his Department was calling Dr Grimes ahead of his appearance before the Estimates Committee.

The Parliament and the community deserve reassurance that the Prime Minister's Department was not attempting to influence Dr Grime's testimony before the Committee.

It's a matter the Prime Minister can easily clarify and Labor calls upon him to do so.

Well done Joel. This is reminiscent of the case I ran in the Federal Court against the Department (concerning live export). Most notably, despite there being several interviews with a key witness, conducted by a former police officer, there was not one single note to be had. Funny that.
